Projects & Partnerships
As a choir, Amwaj rarely performs alone.
As a choir school, it is never isolated.
Amwaj projects and partnerships are built around the pedagogical program of the choir school, designed to gradually expand the sphere of knowledge and skills acquired by the young singers.
Variety and continuity of the exchanges are at the core of Amwaj’s development and its desire to offer stimulating and inspiring experiences for all.
Since its very first day, in August 2015, Amwaj has involved Palestinian and international guest artists and pedagogues – alongside its regular staff and volunteers – for classes, workshops, summer and winter camps, rehearsals, recordings, concerts and tours.
To date, the Amwaj choir has performed extensively throughout Palestine – in the West Bank, Jerusalem and the Galilee – as well as in Jordan and France, constantly exchanging with other artists and ensembles.
For its three tours in France, the choir’s artistic partners were major French youth ensembles and choirs such as the DEMOS orchestra (Philharmonie de Paris), Choeur de Jeunes de l’Orchestre de Paris and Les Petits Chanteurs de Lyon. Concerts were held in multiple venues in Paris (Philharmonie de Paris, Conservatoire National, Notre-Dame de Paris, UNESCO, Institut du Monde Arabe) as well as in auditoriums and churches of several other French cities (Lille, Saint-Omer, Lyon, Saint-Étienne, Arcueil, Aubervilliers).
A special relationship between Amwaj and the prestigious choir Les Petits Chanteurs de Lyon began in 2017, when the French children’s choir was hosted in Bethlehem by Amwaj for the first time. Yearly visits to Palestine followed, and will continue.
Besides a precious artistic value, these exchanges have an essential intercultural dimension that allows Amwaj’s foreign guests to discover and appreciate Palestine, a very unusual destination for children’s choirs.
